Let's jump in shall we? We've got a link to the Course Notes down in the description of this video that will give you access to some important resources as we go along. It's got a course schedule and we want you to know that it's there not for just today but forever - asterisk - unless we forget you've accessed it and delete it by mistake or google gets shut down. Let’s now open and read the document together. It essentially tells us what we're looking at today - just to get some skills so you feel like you're at least on equal footing with the experts. So what we are promising in our course schedule is a gig-based learning guide to GarageBand and so what we hope to be able to do by the end of the course is to create a fully realised piece of music through a series of scaffolded composition experiences. What we're trying to do here is make this an authentic operation for the students. So we are taking a piece of music that we've decided is a great model and then we get the students to create a hot hit based on this model which provides us with a scaffold. To support all of this, we have a Canvas Course, which we’ve linked below. Let’s click that link and have a look at it together. We’ve called this project “The Hottest 101” and we're quite proud of that title. In fact, we think that it’s one of the best dad jokes that I've come up with in a while. The idea is inspired by triple j's hottest 100 and it’s the student’s job to create something that is worthy of being crowned the Hottest 101st song of the year. We've selected the number one song from 2020 to be our stimulus, Heat Waves by Glass Animals. So, out of Heat Waves we get impetus to get into the top 101 and we get a guide for how to write the 101st hottest song aka a hot hit!
